Using a small sample of 16 Vancouver and Whistler house and condo rentals
by owner for 2010, I recently estimated an average nightly rate of about
$425 per bedroom, and a median nightly rate of about $300 per bedroom. When
I eliminate one property, the average and median asking prices both work
out to approximately $300 per bedroom.
While many Canadian hotels have not yet announced hotel rates for 2010,
expect to see many hotels in Vancouver and Whistler exceeding the $300 level.
Private vacation rentals may indeed represent an affordable option for Vancouver
and Whistler lodging.
